Sadie Sojourn

The following graphite drawings are from the book “Sadie Sojourn” 1989.

The images were an attempt to describe a dream state. The dream despiciting a floating blanket, and two halves of a self participating in a levitational picnic! The entire plan unravelled: human-like dolls leaving the scene of 11th century wall panels, intricate patterns suggest infinity resting upon an unknown being, architectural details clueing time periods while human like figures walk away from locks and moon-influenced bridge in the midst of organic shapes within nature. This mysterious activity moved towards a sense of counterbalance and completion!

Levitational Picnic Artist Statement

“Levitational Picnic” is 1 of 5 drawings set into creation after waking from a dream. I recalled images of dolls resting on a floating blanket, leaving the scene of an 11 century wall panel, intricate patterns of infinity resting upon an unknown beings, architectural details cluing time periods while human-like figures walk away from locks and Asian influences bridging organic shapes with nature. All activity moves toward a sense of counterbalance and completion.

My question for the observer: Is this personal reflection of a dream state in common question? If struggle with Self is the motivating intention of symbol making, perhaps graphic traceries emerge as gateways for spiritual mandalas.
